Transparency: an app gives you all the information you need about how your clothes are made

Would you as consumers favor brands that can provide you with understandable, easily accessible and credible information about the ecological footprint of their products as well as the conditions under which their clothes are made? These are the findings of a survey conducted by Ipso Mori in 2019. According to the survey, eight out of ten French consumers believe that clothing brands should provide information on their environmental commitments, and around two-thirds (64 percent) would be dissuaded from buying from a brand associated with polluting production practices.

This is also the observation of Good Fabric, a company founded by Nathalie Lebas-Vautier (who also created Ekyog in 2004), whose business is to support brands in their CSR diagnostics and strategies, from the field to business model modeling.

Footbridge is a SaaS (software as a service) eco-design and life cycle assessment (LCA) platform for textile products: an industry first. Specially designed for the fashion and apparel industry, this offering enables brands to better control the conditions under which their textile products are manufactured, and to meet consumer expectations for transparency. In concrete terms, Footbridge collects traceability data, calculates a product’s environmental footprint and provides comprehensive impact analyses at collection level. In short, Footbridge is an environmental diagnostic tool involving all supply chain stakeholders.

« Auditable information that cannot be altered »

« To reduce the environmental footprint of a product, it is essential to know the real conditions under which it is manufactured, from the production of the raw material to the garment. The information accessible via our platform makes it possible to collect data, thus making every player in the chain responsible. Footbridge’s specific databases, used by Good Fabric, enable us to carry out an in-depth LCA, a real tool for steering the eco-design of collections. » explains the press release.

« Improving traceability is the first step towards a more responsible textile industry, » sums up Nathalie Lebas-Vautier. While the back office enables brands to manage their databases and communicate all indicators on the traceability of production channels, suppliers, and the LCA of each collection and product, this platform also enables the deployment of a mobile application for customers. This application enables consumers to scan the QR Code on the traceability label of the product they wish to buy, and immediately access all available information, particularly on manufacturing.
